Compact Wethersfield feels spacious inside
   The Wethersfield is a compact transitional home designed to fit neatly on a narrow lot. A slender post supports the porch roof, and two wide multipaned windows provide an attractive balance to the gird-patterned garage door. The windows are traditional, while the garage door is contemporary, and yet the two styles blend together harmoniously.
   Transitional homes, by definition, combine old and new exterior elements such as these. The interior, on the other hand, is designed to satisfy the needs and preferences of contemporary families.
   A two-story entry opens out into one large gathering space that fills the entire right side of the ground floor, front to back. The living room up front flows into the dining room and kitchen at the rear. Double doors in the dining area conceal a wide pantry, and nearby sliding glass doors open onto a covered patio that could be screened, if bugs are bothersome.
   Counters and cabinets wrap around three sides of the step-efficient C-shaped kitchen. This arrangement maximizes both work space and storage capacity. Nearby, just off the hall leading to the owners� suite, are a powder room, broom closet, and a pass-through utility room that links the house to the garage. This feature provides both safety and shelter, which will be greatly appreciated when unloading groceries after sunset or in inclement weather.
   Owners� suite amenities include a private bathroom and a surprisingly large walk-in closet. Three more bedrooms and a full bathroom are upstairs in the Wethersfield.
